Volunteer at the Organic Farm

Come join NetSAP Boston for a fun filled day at the Long Island Shelter Farm to make a difference. The farm is a 4 acre organic vegetable, flower, and herb farm located on Long Island in Boston Harbor and produces 30,000 pounds of high quality food serving over 850 homeless individuals every day. NetSAP volunteers will help in harvesting/ landscaping activities around the farm.
Enjoy the start of spring by spending a day out in open fresh air helping on the farm, with your friends and helping to make a difference in local community. Click here to view pictures from our Organic Farm event in 2007

DIRECTIONS TO THE FARM AT LONG ISLAND SHELTER
GOING SOUTH ON EXPRESSWAY (I-93)
Follow south on expressway. Get off at exit 12 (Neponset/Quincy). When you come off the ramp stay to the right, pass under the expressway, and go over Neponset River Bridge. While on bridge stay to the left (direction Squantum). Go through one light. At the next light (Dunkin Donuts will be on your left) take a left on East Squantum Rd. Follow road (keeping ocean on left) until you get to the gatehouse. Tell the officer you are going to the shelter.
COMING FROM JAMAICA PLAIN AREA
Take Morton Street and stay on 203 to Neponset Circle (under Rte 93). Stay on your right and make a right at the light to go over Neponset River Bridge. While on bridge stay to the left (direction Squantum). Go through one light. At the next light (Dunkin Donuts will be on your left) take a left on Squantum Rd. Follow road (keeping ocean on left) until you get to the gatehouse. Tell the officer you are going to the shelter.
GOING NORTH ON EXPRESSWAY (I-93):
Follow north on expressway. Get off at exit 9 (Adams St./East Milton). Follow straight to second stop light and take a right (Squantum St.). Follow Squantum St. past Hancock St. (past N. Quincy station). Keep going straight to next major intersection (Quincy Shore Drive). Go straight, passing Dunkin Donuts on left. Follow this road (keeping ocean on left) until you get to the gatehouse. Tell the officer you are going to the shelter.
The shelter is a couple of miles past the gatehouse. Keep right all along this road and over the bridge. You will come towards a group of buildings. Park on the left, by the red and white-checkered water tower parking lot. The shelter is the biggest building down from the parking lot. The farm is off to the right of the road, opposite the parking lot (look for a fenced in area, 2 sheds, and a greenhouse).
Volunteer groups will meet with the farm or shelter staff in the parking lot. During the growing season, individual volunteers will find staff in the field.
Please note: The bridge is limited to 10 t loads. No bus or heavy truck unless special permit is required.
Bring water bottles (can be refilled at the farm), appropriate clothing for weather and closed shoes for outdoor work, sunscreen, bug spray, snack and/or lunch
