Development through Entrepreneurship
You are cordially invited to join Anand Shah, Co-Founder of Indicorps and CEO of the Piramal Foundation as he shares his experiences from the Grassroots Development Laboratory's (GDL) efforts to use entrepreneurship for the development of a rural district, Bagar, Rajasthan in India on January 30th, 2008.
Though Bagar is considered to be the hub of high quality education in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, many residents of the
town struggle to find adequate employment opportunities. In response, Source for Change, a GDL initiated project by Indicorps
Fellows was incubated in October 2007 to revolutionize the rural landscape by introducing technology based employment opportunities
for women and by providing best-in-class business process outsourcing services.
Source for Change is a rural Business Processing
Outsourcing (BPO) company that performs data-entry and digitization work.
Source for Change currently employs 10 women who have all completed 10th grade and have basic English reading and writing skills.
Ten women started the two-month training program and learned Hindi typing, English typing and English reading & writing.
Nine out of the ten women had never used a computer before; these same women are now typing at speeds up to 38 words per minute.
Learn about similar opportunities in development through entreprenuership with the Indicorps Fellowship.
