Boston and TIE-WIN present a Fireside Chat with South Asian Women
Leaders
We invite you to join us for a fascinating discussion with Indira
Patel, CEO of New England Office Supply, Inc., and Shelley Chhabra,
entrepreneur and owner of Shelley Chhabra Indian Bridal.
Ms. Patel will share with us her migration to the US, her plunge
into business ownership, and subsequent efforts at company growth.
She will give you insights into what it takes to run a successful
business.
Ms. Chhabra will talk about leveraging your talents into
entrepreneurial ventures. She will also talk about the challenges of
succeeding in a highly competitive environment and the importance of
product differentiation.
Ms. Patel and Ms. Chhabra will also talk about generational
differences as young Indian professionals establish their careers.
Ms. Patel will highlight the professional opportunities available to
Indians who immigrated to the United States in the 1960s and 1970s
and discuss how the obstacles and challenges faced by the children
of that generation are different today.
Ms. Patel and Ms. Chhabra will conclude with the special challenges
of being a woman-entrepreneur; particularly one of south asian
descent and the issues around work-life balance, access to
resources/capital, career paths and best practices.

Indira Patel, President & CEO of New England
Office Supply, Inc. (NEOS). NEOS is one of the Top 100 woman-led
businesses in the state, and one of the Top 500 woman-owned
businesses in the US, according to Working Woman magazine, for
two years in a row. NEOS has been in business for 10 years, when
it started out with less than $1 million in revenue in 1993. Ms.
Patel came to the US in 1971 as a student. She got married and
had one child before she decided to go for her MBA program at
Simmons College in Boston, and graduated in 1983. Until she
became a business owner, Indira’s experience was in the health
care field. Ms. Patel was selected by President Clinton to
participate in the White House Conference on Small Business in
1995. She has also hosted a delegation of Fortune 1000 Indian
Businesses at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and organized and
participated in Indian Business Owners’ issues meeting with
Congressman Joseph Kennedy, Congressman Marty Meeehan and
Congressman Peter Torkildsen. Ms Patel is on the Business
Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Affirmative Marketing
Program and on the Board of TriMega, a $2 billion purchasing
group and also a Board Member of BPGI, which is a global
purchasing group representing $12 billion in volume. |

Shelley Chhabra Owner of Shelley Chhabra Indian
Bridal, a fashion company that sells lehengas and sarees to
Indian American brides. With three generations of experience
behind her, Shelley hails from the famous Chhabra fashion family
of Delhi. Living in the States, Shelley found an opportunity to
expand her family's legacy to a new market. Shelley specializes
in fusion clothing which balances eastern workmanship with
western cuts. Her forte lies in her bridal collection which has
been featured in numerous magazines and media. Her ready-to-wear
line includes trendy dresses, jackets, shirts and skirts. Based
in Cambridge, MA, Shelley has clients all over the country.
Shelley, born and raised in Massachusetts, is a graduate of
Tufts University and has worked for Texas Instruments and the
Yankee Group in the past. She has been an active member of the
NetSAP community. |
